What makes a great recruiter in the legal industry?

Commercial awareness and in-depth market knowledge.

What’s one thing law firms look for in candidates that they don’t always say outright?

A candidate who is both entrepreneurial and has a vision for their practice.

What do you think sets a great lawyer apart from a good one in the hiring process?

A great lawyer will know where they are headed and what they would like to achieve from their career, whereas a good lawyer will only think as far as the next step.

If you could give one tip to lawyers preparing for interviews, what would it be? Confident body language and professional presentation is key in making that crucial first impression?

For Partners specifically, know your business case inside and out, which includes historical billings, client base, projected billings and target client base.

What’s one thing candidates should never say in an interview?

Do not discuss reasons why you dislike your current employer and, instead, focus on why an opportunity at X firm will elevate your practice/be a logical next step in furthering and building your career.

What’s the biggest misconception about legal recruitment?

Our role is unethical. We are here to bring opportunities to clients and candidates alike which can change lives and businesses for the better.

What’s one piece of career advice you wish you’d received earlier?

Failure is part of success – don’t be scared of failing!

If you weren’t a recruiter, what would you be doing?

I would work on a sailing boat so I could swim in the sea every day!

What’s your secret talent that has nothing to do with recruitment?

I can do “the crow” yoga pose!
